Bringing the comments discussion from February here. Monchi made some notable mistakes in recent years (such as the replacements for Kounde and Diego Carlos) but overall had an amazing tenure at Sevilla. The club did pursue Lopetegui's squad preferences too much (though his success might be worth it). The coaching hires have been an issue-- it does not make sense to hire Sampaoli or Alonso midseason and expect to completely change the style of play. Mendilibar or Quique or Caparros (or Bordalas) are midseason hire profiles to play conservatively and salvage a result in the table. Hiring for a new season, get someone who plays an attractive style and give them time (more than half a season, especially if you brought players for them) to find success. Don't buy players for Mendi or Quique if their style won't please fans/keep them at the club for long. Would have been nice to get Arrasate-- we'll see how Garcia Pimienta does. Going all in with Lopetegui to chase the league ended in too many older players on high wages, and that cannot be reversed in one transfer window (or two). The vision in early/mid 2010s was to evolve from a club with strong scouting and academy (mid-2000s success) to a consistent Europe buying club in the second tier like Atleti or Leipzig or Milan, and the squad construction and missing Europe for a few seasons has now altered the reality. Financial issues are forcing a step back (at least for now) to the previous model. Orta and his staff are trying to adjust the squad/model, but it seems that both the directors and fans still expect top 6 and do not want to adjust expectations for a season or two. Academy players should be developed and valued rather than sold at the first opportunity. We can point to Ajax or Porto as examples of building this, but in Spain RM and FCB try to snatch any big prospect (like Ansu) from other Spanish club academies by the time the player is 12 or 13 years old. Orta has a big job to do, and fans are already unhappy even though he has had very limited ability to spend and maneuver so far.

Paco Gento, Carvajal, Modric, Kroos and him are the only players in 69 years to have won the competition 6 times. That-s impressive.

In those cases it's the other way around. Moroccans are of Moroccan ethnicity and lived in the Netherlands their whole life. Huijssen is of Dutch ethnicity and lived in Spain for almost his whole life. Either way it's their choice of course

I remember him signing for Liverpool as a 20 year old and now he'll be 32 this year. That was physically painful to type.

Murilo is fairly common name in Brazil. The thing here it that his parents decided to add a little extra spice and named him with two L's 😅

I care about Spanish players which is why if he’s good enough I would like him to go eventually. I don’t want teenagers getting called up all the time because 1. Experience is extremely important in international football more than other tournaments 2. They’ll end up like Pedri where they are hurt every other game I don’t care if they are from Barça if they’re good but the same thing does for Yamal, I don’t want to burn him out. Madrid never plays young Spaniards anymore but if they did I’d say the same thing. The biggest thing though is he’s literally only played 13 professional games. There are many Spaniards on this platform that say similar things as me
avatar
Club world cup you mean. Still, his contribution to the club cannot be compared to the likes of Di María or Ozil, who imo should represent the minimal standards for club legends
avatar
Unfortunately that badboy persona overshadowing his main qualities. He will always be picked in all time squads. His Youtube highlights are filled with that bullshit because it gets views. Go find Roy Keane highlights and you get the same shit.

"Retegui was born and raised in Argentina. His maternal grandfather Angelo Dimarco emigrated to Argentina from Canicattì, Sicily. His father's grandparents on one side of the family were also Italian, specifically from Genoa, while the others were Basque." You were right

An absolute legend. Immense player, he will always be welcome at Sevilla. It really saddens me to see him go. Such a great, underrated player. I wish him the best in the future

Pocas veces he visto que jugador ame tanto un club y una ciudad ajena a su país de origen. Su pasión es indudable, inmenso jugador.

Venia a chequear si era el mismo chico porque me sonaba mucho el nombre, la vio Orta eh

super underrated, the one bright spark from sevilla's horror season

Downgrade every player by 5 points

you kept fucking Diego alonso ( the worst manager in sevillas hiatory ) for Mendilibar. Thats just sad.

No way they added to players but not isaac romero 😭

If they don’t start getting results soon they have a really high chance of relegating. Based on their performance up until now these are the ratings imo they deserve for now Downgrades Dmitrovic 77/77 Ramos 78/78 Bade 76/82 Sow 78/80 Ocampos 79/79 Suso 79/79 Navas 78/78 Marcao 77/80 Gattoni 73/79 needs more playing time but hasn’t gotten any after a mistake earlier in the season Nianzou 73/80 Acuña 79/79 very overrated Gudelj 78/78 Torres 77/77 En-nesyri 80/82 Lukebakio 78/80 Rafa Mir 75/78 Jordan 75/75 very overrated Lamela 77/77 Januzaj 75/75 Mariano 72/72 Upgrades Jaunlu 75/84 Pedrosa 77/81 Soumare 76/79 Romero 75/82 Nyland 77/77 imo better than Dmitrovic from the little he’s played Salas 72/82 Alberto Flores 67/80

We don't have a style of play, we haven't had jackshit since Mendiliibar was sacked.

I love the annual early year nerfing of an academy team because unsurprisingly they can't compete with seasoned pros in the 2nd tier, so clearly they have no potential.
avatar
I prefer Bryan, they are all at a similar level atm but I see much more potential in Bryan. Right now I would say: Bryan>Lara>Pozo And watch out for Luismi and Zarzana, we only produce winger lately, those 2 will get to that level if not higher soon

WHAT A PERV
avatar
Very nice goal. Contributing a lot in LB, could definitively move in that spot considering that Acuna and Pedrosa are injury prone
avatar
88 heading is beyond me like wtf He deserves 96 the best in the world
avatar
My man is downvoted for saying the truth tf, Madrid fans really have no critical mind
avatar
He's not top at all, im sorry. He's a very hard working RB but he's not world class at all, he is good. In fact, last year started to decline getting heavy legs in second halfs, struggling to get back on his feet to make a run to defend, and that's age, which is ok. Ancelotti needs to make him rest, so he can still be fresh in important games. Though, he started this season very strong besides getting injury recently.

He's been called up to Spain u21 today. He's lived in Spain since he was 3 y.o. I won't say it's impossible but quite difficult imo.
avatar
This boy is amazing since the pre-season, comes out of nowhere and perform every single time he got on the pitch. Flawless since July, impactful, he's clearly in his element in our way of play. Can't wait to see his next steps and how he's gonna react when he'll have more opportunities and responsabilities during the season and during clutch games if he does play in them

Busquets is shit, Rodri the best
avatar
